Today is day two of the Mayborn Journalism Conference. Tomorrow we move into the UNT Mcconnell Hall Dorms. My group, Group A, had the opportunity to interview Jeff Chang and Chris Vognar. Julian was filming, Liam mic'd, Andrea interviewed, Lola tweeted, and I took notes over what was said. We then went back and listened to one more speaker and then had lunch. After lunch we looked over the footage a little bit, and then Liam and I began writing.

It is very different being surrounded by mostly broadcast journalism students. Especially since the other four people in my group are broadcast students. Broadcast students are very outgoing and it's nice to have friendly people around all the time. The hotel is really nice and I'm going to miss it, but I'm looking forward to seeing the UNT dorm and getting to exerience campus life again!

It's the last day at the Dallas Fort Worth Hilton. Later today we take all of our stuff and move it into the dorms at UNT. Last night was the Literary Lights Awards dinner where we heard Barbara Ehrenreich talk about the great divide in todays world. She talked about the differences between the different social classes and how poverty compares to the world and how middle class and higher class people view those who are less fortunate. After the night was over I headed back to my room and continued to work on my website, adding the finishing touches to get it up and running. This morning I woke up and packed all of my small cosmetic bags into my suitcase and almost had to sit on my suitcase to zip it up after I found out that my hand knotted blanket fit on top of everything. We made our way down to breakfast and worked on our projects until it was brunch time.  We had brunch and then moved on to pack everything in two vans and were on our way to the UNT campus. Once we got to the campus we got our room keys and went up to our rooms. The girls are on the second floor and Joshlyn and I made two trips--one to take our normal bags and another to take our heavy suitcases. When everyone had their luggage settled in their rooms, we went downstairs for a general meeting before heading to Mayborn to begin editing footage and copy. Right now we are finishing up at Mayborn for the day and we will head back to McConnell Hall around seven.

9:17 a.m.

Today after I woke up, my roommate Jasmine and I went next to Andrea and Joshlyn's dorm before we went down to breakfast--at around 8:30 I should add. Lola met us there and then we proceeded to go walk down to Bruce Hall for a quick breakfast. When we got to Mayborn we went over the instruction for the morning before beginning work. Right now Andrea is recording her voice over in the soundbox, Lola was tweeting, Julian is looking over edited footage, and I'm not exactly sure what Liam is doing. Today I am taking photos of everyone and what they're doing which I am really excited about because I finally get to use my camera...for the first time this week! After Andrea is done recording, we are going outside to film her stand up which I will also be shooting. When she is done with her stand up, Lola is doing hers which I will shoot as well.

07/21/15

I woke up at 7:30 like I did yesterday--30 minutes later than I set my alarm for. After staying up talking and laughing with newly made friends, I made my way back up to my room where I got in the shower for a while. I'm not kidding. I really didn't want to get out of the shower because I was so tired, but I finally made my way out and into bed. This morning I got ready fairly fast and texted Andrea and Joshlyn to see if they were up. They weren't, and Andrea said she was thankful I texted them because they weren't up and it was already 8 o'clock. Once they were ready, Andrea, Joshlyn, Jasmine, and I walked down to Bruce Hall for another quick breakfast. Today I had store brand Cocoa Puffs that turned my regular skim milk into chocolate milk. Today's morning session went by fast because I was taking pictures of everyone doin things. I got to go with group C to their interview which was really fun. I walked and talked with Samantha and found out that we are both Yerds who did not know that we would be getting ourselves into so much broadcast. She's a sweet girl and I'm glad that I got to walk over to Sage with her because I don't think I would have known as much about her as I do now. After the three interviews we came back to Mayborn and went to lunch. I sat with Breylin, Lola, Eric, Adrian, and Joshlyn, which was...an experience. Eric is a funny guy and has quite the stories. When we were done with lunch we went to McConnell to play a few quick games of ping pong. Well I played the piano that's in the corner and Joshlyn listened to me. We headed back to Mayborn and I went out and Izzie took a few pictures of me for my bio. Then Julian and I walked up to the one of the main buildings so I could take his pictures. They turned out well, and I will include some of them, along with other pictures from this workshop in the "photography" section of my website.

07/22/15

Yesterday was a good day. We finished up in Mayborn at 5:30 and made our way to the Bruce Cafe. We were all hungry. Dinner was 30 minutes late and we are hungry teenagers. I sat with Ms. Emily, Joshlyn, Lola, Kristen, and Jazmin. I decided to get some Jello when I was done eating. I got both red and blue, because you can never go wrong with some American Jello. The jello was in perfect cubes and weren't too soft. I was eating a jello square slowly because I was zoned out and Jazmin went "Why are you eating your jello like that??" and I don't know why it made me laugh as hard as it did. Even Breylin and Julian who were sitting several seats down saw it and saw Jazmin and I laughing really hard. I was really happy that I made some really good friends who I could laugh with. When we were done with dinner we went back to McConnell and everyone who wanted to swim got ready to go. When we had the pool group together we walked over to the fitness center. They have this big rock climbing wall to the right and all the machines and equipment to the left. Above, there is an indoor track that people were walking and running on. We had to walk through the locker room to get to the pool. I wasn't planning on swimming and I didn't have my Nikes so I couldn't use any of the machines unless I wanted to run in my Keds. Joshlyn, Ife, Ito, and I stood in the pool area and decided that we "experienced" the pool enough and walked back out. When you immediately walk into the rec center there is a Smoothie King and that made me very happy. I haven't had Smoothie King for a whole week! (what the whaaat!). I was really excited about Smoothie King, so we all got a smoothie and once we got them we headed back to the dorms. As we were walking out a man asked me to put his hat in his bag and so I did and he continued on his way, jogging down the street. When we got back to McConnell we went to "the bus stop" as we call it. It's actually the Smitty Studying Room. It was Adrian and Liam playing ping pong and all four of us girls plus Julian watching TV. We were watching ABC Family for a while and then changed it and found Catfish. We started watching Catfish when everyone got back, and it's the new one that Josh and I watched on our way up to the camp. After Catfish was over we tried to watch an episode of Scream but I couldn't do it. Too much for me. Breylin plugged in his laptop and we wanted to see what "Dogs with Jobs" was all about but that was too sad. We decided to watch High School Musical (the first one though. Not the second. Sad) and all the math kids started watching through the glass window. Eventually (after the first 20 minutes of the movie) we got bored and changed the movie to Anchorman 2. It wasn't until 11:30 when we made our way back upstairs to our rooms. Joshlyn came over for a while and she, Jasmine and I had some bonding time. We finally said our goodnights and went to bed, ready to wake up early(ish) again.

This morning we looked out the window and saw that it rained, and after breakfast it started raining a litle bit so we walked to Mayborn in the rain. None of us had umbrellas. I let Andrea look at my photos so she could put the rolling credits together. I talked to Lola about my golf team and all my high school golf experience and then told me about her high school cheer stories. Now we are fixing to wrap up to go to early lunch so we can do anchor filmings.

07/24/15

I didn't realize that I haven't written for two days. That make me sad. Well, on the 22nd we did the anchor filming and I got some really good shots of Julian and Izzie. There were a lot of takes that would have been good for outtakes like when Julian said "right man" instead of "white man" and a lot of Izzie's eye rolls. It was really interesting to see how much goes into these takes and all the anchoring. The behind the scenes is crazy, but it was neat. People definitely don't get things right the first time. That night we all hung out in the 'bus stop' and watched TV. People stayed for a while then slowly started filtering out. Joshlyn and I walked to the rec center to get money out of the ATM so she could pay for detergent. We couldn't get the machine to work so I asked one of the students who was there to help and he did. He was very nice and thought it was funny, but in the good way. We made our way back to the second floor and loaded her clothes into the washer. I sat on top of the broken washer and talked to Joshlyn. We had a nice heart to heart, and I really appreciate having her as a friend. She is such a sweet young lady and I know she is going to do great when she goes to U of H. I'm glad she will be visiting this upcoming school year when she can. We went back downstairs and watched TV with Julian, Eric, Jazmin, Adrian, and Breylin. Julian and Eric went to bed and it was just the five of us left. It was fun staying up with them and watching Catfish and Cops. Eventually--at 12:30 I believe--we went to bed. I woke up the next morning and got dressed and then went next door to straighten my hair since the outlet that we had was broken. Lola was next door doing her makeup and hair because she had seen a cockroach in her room and did not want to be in there. After we had finished everything, Joshlyn helped me take my stuff downstairs to where my parents were so they could put it in their car.

Once just about everyone was downstairs, Jazmin, Jasmine, Joshlyn, Eric, and I all walked to Willis Library together. We got lost so Eric asked a girl for directions, and eventually we found Willis. We all sat down and talked and it was fun. I don't want to go into detail because it was sad leaving everyone. I will attatch some photos below.

After leaving UNT, we drove to Denton Square and walked to Atomic Candy where we bought some hard coffee candies, honey sticks, and cow tails. It was a cute little shop. Then I tried to look for a restaurant that I had seen going to DRC, but couldn't find it so my mom and I gave up. That's when my dad called and said his car completely broke down and we would have to call a wrecker. Great. We waited I don't even know how long until he came, but it seemed like forever out in the heat. The wrecker got there and took us to the Honda dealership and we waited some more. There was an icecream cooler in the shop that sold Beth Marie's ice cream which I heard was really good. I had S'more's ice cream in a cup and it was good and that made the wait better. The Honda place told my dad that they would have the part to fix his car the next day so they gave us a loaner car and let us use it until the next day. That night we saw the Fenyes' and the Wrights and had dinner at BJ's. It was super fun to see everyone and get to visit with them. After that we went back to te hotel we stayed at last time we were in Fort Worth. It's a very nice hotel and this one had a fancy shower system that was difficult to figure out.

That's about all...here are some pictures from UNT that I enjoy a lot.
